Does my book have to be edited? Yes, your book will need to be edited. Sci-rotica has a talented editing staff, with many years of combined experience. We do not change the meaning or voice of your manuscript, and Sci-rotica will never make editing changes without the author’s approval. However, please ensure your manuscript is as polished as possible before submitting. While editors will help you finalise your work, they are not going to rewrite it. A strong grasp on point of view, grammar and voice are all points we take in consideration in evaluation. Remember, Sci-rotica does not require authors to pay any fees or charges for editing services. What will my book's layout look like? Sci-rotica uses several industry standard layouts. For print books we usually make your book 6" x 9" (exclusive paperback) or 4" x 7" (trade paperback) and use a very readable font. We are willing to work with you to design the layout to your preference. The layout for e-books vary slightly depending on the e-book format. Sci-rotica ensures that you always get to see a copy and approve it before it goes on sale to the public. Who Designs the Cover? Our policy is that we design all cover art in house. As a young company Sci-rotica is striving to build a distinctive and appealing brand identity. Therefore, we expect all of our covers to follow this branding policy. Of course, that doesn't mean that you won't have any say in your cover design. Sci-rotica will work with you during the cover design stage. We will send you a cover questionnaire that gets your ideas on what you want on your cover. If you have ideas or particular graphics you want included, please let us know. We have a pool of talented cover artists that create our unique covers. What will be the retail price of my book? Sci-rotica offer our readers books at a fair price based upon length (word count). Sci-rotica will not sell all e-books at one low price and we will not deflate your book's worth simply because it is an e-book. Customers will pay less for a shorter novel and more for a longer one. That's the only way to be fair both to the author and the reader. The author wants to be compensated for their hard work and the reader understandably wants value for money. Sci-rotica will try to meet both needs. Sci-rotica will set the retail price of your print book to be competitive with other books in your genre, and the price is dependent on the book size, page count, and story content. We go by a strict formula designed to make the book as least expensive as possible, while maintaining a proper amount to cover printing, distribution, wholesale discounts, royalties paid, and profit. If you have a large-print book, or a limited edition, the retail prices could vary greatly. Will I be expected to promote and advertise my book? Yes, you will be expected to actively promote and advertise your book. Remember, this is your book, and no one knows it better than you, or where the best place to market it will be. You, as the author, have a lot to do with the promotion of your book. Once your book is published, become visible. Tell everyone about your book. The more people that know about your book and read your book, the more friends they will tell about it if they like it. Get the word out! People won't buy your book if they don't know it exists. Sci-rotica make a commitment to our authors to work with them and help promote their books. This includes Internet promotion, as well as exposure through other media and reviews. We may also market your book in many other avenues of sales opportunities other than our own web site. Do I need my own web site? As a Sci-rotica author you automatically qualify to have your bio included in our "Meet the Authors" pages. However, space is understandably limited. Although not compulsory, an author should have a web site promoting their books and themselves! A web site declares to the reading public that you want to be taken seriously as an author. It is somewhere where you not only advertise your books, but reveal something about yourself as a writer. If you do not have, or are not comfortable with creating your own web site, Sci-rotica can arrange one for you through our parent company for a low flat-rate fee. Details on request. |
