Does Sci-rotica offer an advance to authors? Sci-rotica does not offer any advance against future royalties. We pay quarterly royalties (in arrears) on all sales in accordance with the schedule in your publishing contract (see sample). Quite simply, advances drain a small company of resources that are needed to run the business. When a larger, well established publisher signs an author and gives them an advance they are making a statement that they believe they will see a return on investment equal or greater to the advance. This is one reason that these larger publishers will only sign "bankable" names or manuscripts with much formulated plots and characters. As a small publisher we do not have the resources or the desire to follow the same formula. As a result, we are able to publish manuscripts that may be different from the norm. This also allows us to publish more titles per year than what would normally be allowed (given the "pro-rated" advance scale). What royalties rates does Sci-rotica offer? Royalties are paid on the net amount received for every sale. Royalty amounts can vary depending on the edition of the book, and whether it is sold directly from our web site or through a wholesaler. Royalties are paid on a quarterly basis in accordance with the schedule in your publishing contract (see sample). As a general rule, we pay 15% royalties on the net amount received for print, CD and audio editions, and 40% royalties on the net amount received for electronic editions. The royalty amount is the percentage of the actual amount Sci-rotica receives, not necessarily the cover price. If the book is wholesaled, or sold at a discount, whatever money is actually received will be used to calculate the author's royalty. When are royalties paid? Royalties are paid on a calendar quarterly basis in accordance with the schedule in your publishing contract (see sample). This payment is sent at the end of the month following the end of the calendar quarter. Our calendar quarters are: Quarter 1: January - March (royalties credited on April 30th). Books are not considered sold, and royalties will not be paid until payment is actually received by Sci-rotica. For example, many wholesalers pay for books they sell 120 days after the end of the month in which the books were sold. This means that if a book was sold in January, the wholesaler would pay Sci-rotica for that book at the end of May/beginning of June. Consequently, the author would receive no royalty payment on a book sold in January until the July 31st royalty payment date. The reason for the delay is to allow time for returns from booksellers. Royalties are not paid until money is actually received from resellers. Generally, payment of royalties for e-book and audio sales are much quicker than payment of royalties for traditional print sales. Do I receive a royalty statement? Yes, a royalty statement detailing the sales of your book(s) will accompany your royalty payment. Do I have to pay for set up fees for getting my book published? Sci-rotica does not require its authors to purchase any books. We give you free author's copies in accordance with our publishing contract. You are never required to buy a single copy of your book. How many free author copies will I receive? Authors will receive free copies of their book in accordance with your publishing contract (see sample). Can I buy more copies of my book? Yes. Authors may purchase any quantities of their books for a standard author discount of 40% off cover price. Royalties will not be paid on any books sold to the author at the author's discount. Authors may also purchase any quantity of books at full retail price wherein royalties will be paid. The Author may freely sell or give away any books that they purchase (at wholesale or retail). The Author pays postage and delivery charges for print books. Can I be invoiced for purchases of my book? Unfortunately, payment terms cannot be extended to author purchases. Sci-rotica require payment in full when you place your order. Once we receive your payment, we process the order for your books. Do You Offer Other Author Benefits? Yes. No doubt if you enjoy writing erotic science fiction and fantasy you will also enjoy reading other works in this genre. Authors may purchase any books published by Sci-rotica at a standard author discount of 10% off cover price. |
